|
|
My 30th birthday is coming up and I want to have scotch at my party -- and this is my excuse to spend more than I usually do. In my experience, I prefer spicy scotches, like the Glenlivet 15 and the Macallan 17 (particularly the latter). Can you recommend other scotches along those lines?
Thank you! |

| I am sure we could suggest a few, how much will you be looking to spend? |

If you are after a bit of spice then how about the Compass Box Spice Tree or even the limited release cask strength Spice Tree
The Spice Tree is smoky, rich, sweet, full of spicy fruitiness and a lovely long finish. |

| I'm flexible as to price, but I'm thinking between $100 and $150 per bottle. Of course, if there's a phenomenal one that's cheaper, I won't say no. Thanks! |

The more I read about this one the better it sounds. What would you say is the difference between the regular Spice Tree and its limited release counterpart? (Besides, obviously, price, which doesn't concern me too much for this.) |

| The only difference between them is the alcohol strength the standard bottle of Spice Tree is reduced to a strength of 46% before being bottled and the limited edition is bottled at 54.6% the strenghth it came out the cask. Adding water can dilute the flavour and character of the whisky. |

Benromach have a few malts that you should like. I would suggest Benromach 30 year old which is rich, fruity (rum and raisins), spicy, honeyed, creamy with a a touch of smoke. It has become a favourite of mine since first tasting and a great price for a whisky of this age £143 at The Whisky Exchange.
If you are looking to get a few bottles for your budget then take a look at the Benromach 25 which is also very good, sweet, spicy and a subtle citrus fruitiness and again a great price £67 at The Whisky Exchange.
A few others which wont break the bank but are none the less excellent whiskies which i think you may enjoy are Highland Park 18 - Talisker 10 & 18 - Glenfiddich Rich Oak 14 year old
Do let us know what you decide to get and what you thought of it and have a great Birthday when the time comes.

| I will add Clynelish 14 to the suggestions it is spicy, floral, honeyed and a bit of smoke. |

Thank you everyone! There is a liquor store near me that carries several of these at a decent price (and any price is better without shipping!), so once I get paid next I will go check them out. The hardest part will be saving them for my birthday, which is several months away! The downside of being the sort of person who plans everything in advance... I guess I'll just *have* to splurge and get a second bottle of one of the less expensive ones... |
