Taken from - http://www.auchentoshan.com/blog/index.php/2012/03/01/our-new-range-exclusively-for-the-global-traveller/

This March, we are launching a new and exciting range of whiskies exclusively for the global traveller. Four remarkable expressions, each beautifully matured with its own distinctive style; Springwood, Heartwood, Cooper's Reserve and Solera. Every year, this range will be complimented by two limited editions. The first of these releases this year will be Silveroak, launching in April.

Available globally in a range of international airports, each expression is sublimely maturated using a selection of fine North American and European oak casks previously used for the ageing of Bourbon, Spanish Oloroso Sherry and Pedro Ximenez Sherry.

The magic happens during cask maturation when the Auchentoshan New Spirit takes on a multi-layered complexity from the wood - in the aromas, tastes and texture.

Being the only Scottish Single Malt whisky to triple distil every drop means that our spirit starts life at 81.5% ABV; most distilleries settle for 70% ABV. It is this quality of our triple distilled New Spirit paired with carefully selected oak casks that gives these whiskies some astonishing flavours - these factors are equally, if not more important than merely age. Many whiskies can in fact have a less mature character if matured in lesser quality oak.

The wood theme is evident throughout all aspects of the new range with each expression's name being inspired by the tree life cycle stages that reflect the malts' personality and flavours- perfect for moments of pure indulgence or as a gifting item.

Rachel Barrie, our Master Blender had a few words to say about the new range:
"The new Auchentoshan Travel Retail range brings the story of cask maturation alive, allowing the drinker to experience the distinctive influence of different casks from North America and Spain as well as the influence of age. We have created a range for exploration and discovery, from aperitif to digestif in style, soft and sweet to dark and delicious in taste. I am very excited to have the opportunity to share these intriguing and highly distinctive expressions of Auchentoshan with the world."?

I fancy trying a few of these, Auchentoshan seem to have leaned towards a sherry cask influence for the new range which suits me just fine. I wonder if that is Rachel Barries influence. Any idea of the prices, i assume none of them will bust the bank.

The Auchentoshan Solera does sound good but what makes it worth £130, quite a price for a no age statement whisky.

Yes i wonder what makes the Solera worth £130 when the Silveroak is a 1990 vintage so basically at least 21 years old and priced at £79.99

I must say it is good to see Auchentoshan catering for whisky drinkers who are keen to try different expressions, shame they are exclusive to travel retail but i will get to try some eventually.
