|
|
Hello Everyone,
I am new here and this is my first post so hope you don't mind me jumping straight in with a question.
I am trying to decide between Corryvreckan and Uigeadail for my OHs birthday. I have read a lot of reviews and notes and I had decided on Corryvreckan until I read a few negative posts. So I thought it might be best to seek some guidance from people who know what they are talking about.
He currently has Talisker 10yr old, Jura Superstition and Jura 10yr old. He has tried a Bruichladdich (black tin and possibly black/dark bottle) in the past and he likes Laphroaig but I wouldn't have a clue which one for either.
Given what he is currently drinking and other likes which whisky, Corryvreckan or Uigeadail, would be the better choice? Or would you suggest something completely different? I decided on an Ardbeg as he talks about them frequently.
I am also getting a few sample bottles for comparing
Thanks in advance! |

| Both the Ardbeg Corryvreckan and Uigeadail are excellent whiskies, i wouldnt say one is better than the other they are simply different expressions of Ardbeg and as i said they are both excellent. In my experience people trying the Uigeadail for the first time are usually very impressed so i would say go for the Uigeadail |

| I agree both are outstanding whiskies but if it was to choose i would go for the Uigeadail and given what he likes already i think he will love anything from Ardbeg. |

| As he talks about Ardbeg often i would definitely get him an Ardbeg and given what he already likes he certainly wont be disappointed in a bottle of Ardbeg whatever expression you choose. As others said above both the Corryvreckan and the Uigeadail are outstanding whiskies. My personal preference would be the Uigeadail but i would be more than happy to have any of them. |

| You could also consider Talisker 18 year old which is also an outstanding whisky and around the same price as the Ardbegs you mentioned. |

Whilst at Ardbeg in November I tasted six different whiskys, I prefered the Corryvreckan over the Uigeadail but only just, I think either would be a great gift, the Uigeadail is about £10.00 cheaper in the UK, if you go for the Uigeadail make sure it is 54.2%.

Hello,
Thanks for all the quick replies. I will get the Uigeadail. Thanks for the tip about the %. Got a few other Ardbeg samples - the Supernova and 17 Year Old 1994 - Mission. Then Isle Of Jura Prophecy, Bunnahabhain 20 Year Old 1990 and Laphroaig 18 Year Old.
Thanks also for the Talisker info, I'm not very good at buying anything other than what he is tried as I don't want to get it wrong. That could be his Christmas present sorted!
Thanks again! I'm looking forward to getting this delivered! |

There is a 54.1% version which scored 89/100 from Jim Murray in his Whisky Bible 2012 and the 54.2% version scored 97.5/100, I think the later is the more available.
Hope that helps |

Hope that helps | I have always been under the impression that all Ardbeg Uigeadail is bottled at 54.2%. The only Ardbeg i know that was bottled at 54.1% was the Ardbeg Almost There which was the 3rd release of Ardbeg whisky since the Glenmorangie takeover.
I wonder if it is possibly a misprint/typo in the Whisky Bible 2012? I wish Jim Murray would give more info on small batch releases such as Ardbeg Uigeadail especially when the bottling date and time are laser printed on the bottle. |

| I have never come across any Ardbeg Uigeadail bottled at 54.1%, i just done a search in google and cant find any. It may well be a typo in the Whisky Bible. If they did bottle some at at 54.1% then they would have had to print new labels and a new box just for this batch. |

That's strange - why would he mark the two bottles so differently then, if it's a typo? |

| The very nature of single malt whisky is that even the same expression will vary so a small batch release like Uigeadail will certainly vary. There was a lot of publicity around the big score Jim gave the Uigeadail a couple of years ago so thats probably why he left the high scoring review in the bible, the latest review isnt exactly a low score. I also thought all Uigeadail was only bottled at 54.2%. |
