Ardbeg and Port Charlotte, are examples of distilleries that have released limited edition series whisky's. i.e. Young Series and the PC series, which shows the expression of the whisky over time.
From a collectability standpoint, is the whole worth more then the sum of its parts? Meaning if the complete Young Series or the complete PC series was offered at the auction as one item could it ¨hammer¨more then if each bottle in the series was put as its own item in the auction?
I come from a baseball card collecting background and having a complete series of a type of card (Topps 1994) was worth more then the total of the individuals. And if you traded away one card of the complete series, then the series becomes worthless.
I am curious if the same logic applies to whisky. _________________ Thomas S. Baker |

| I dont think it matters whether you put them into auction as a set or individually it will just depend on the bidders on the day and they will most likely fetch around the same price whatever way you sell them. You will probably find some examples of previous auctions at mctears.co.uk just do a search through past auctions. |

This is possibly something which may be signicant in the future, whisky being worth more as a complete set. As you say we have had a few distillers release mini series of whisky such as Ardbeg, Port Charlotte and recently the Arran Eagle was released to complete the set of Icons of Arran bottlings.
I do think being a full set may effect the value of the bottles in the future, time will tell. Of course it will always matter whether the individual whiskies are considered to be any good. |
