I recently tried the Aberlour a'bunadh for the first time (quite late, I know!), and it got me thinking about how it compares to the Glenlivet Nadurra. They seem obvious rivals to me: both are mainstream distillery bottlings that showcase each distillery's 'natural' style at cask strength, and of course they represent opposite ends of the Speyside spectrum: a sherry monster vs. a 'fruit bomb (as Serge Valentin described the Nadurra!).
So, which way do your tastes lie, notwithstanding the fact that batches may differ? For myself, I still haven't made up my mind - the Aberlour has more of a 'wow factor' but the Nadurra in many ways shows what is best about Glenlivet with that elegance, fruitiness and 'clean' taste. |

Glenlivet Nadurra for me - I like the Aberlour but I have to be in the mood for it, sometimes it's too 'winey' for me.

I decided to move the poll here as it's a more popular forum... (John/William, feel free to delete the duplicating thread in the polls section) So, as the title implies, which one would you pick between the Glenlivet Nadurra and Aberlour a'bunadh? Totally different of course, yet they seem obvious rivals to me: both are mainstream distillery bottlings that showcase each distillery's 'natural' style at cask strength, and of course they represent opposite ends of the Speyside spectrum: a sherry monster vs. a 'fruit bomb' (as Serge Valentin described the Nadurra).

Like others i couldnt choose between the two, recently i have been drinking more of the Aberlour, batches 33, 34 and 36 have been excellent, i have gotten through a couple of bottles of each of them.

Any batch of Nadurra i have had has been very good. The Aberlour a'bunadh i have had has varied from good to outstanding. Recent batches 30+ i have had have all been very good indeed.

I do like both but it is aways good to try a new batch of the Aberlour a bunadh as they do vary whereas the batches of the Glenlivet Nadurra are pretty consistent

Interesting results so far - it's close to 50/50 as would be expected from quality drams like that. In the end I voted for the a'bunadh, as I have a feeling that it's the one I would choose if I was on a desert island with only one option! It's very close though, and like others here I'm in the mood for the Nadurra more frequently.
