The Macallan have announced that The Macallan 1824 Collection Limited Release MMXII, the third in this elite series, consists of just 1,824 decanters of a single malt whisky that has been selected from some of the rarest casks which have been maturing at The Macallan Estate.

It will be released on the 15th May.

Sounds like a great line; hope I get a chance to try a dram.

I thought the Macallan Whisky Makers Edition in the 1824 range was outstanding and i have a bottle of the Macallan Oscuro in the cabinet which i will open some day. Unfortunately the Macallan 1824 MMXII and the previous 2 releases of it are out of my price range, around £2000 if i remember correctly.

The no age statement did at first make me a bit warey of the Macallan 1824 travel retail range but now i have tried them i can say the lack of age statement certainly doesnt mean a lack of quality or indeed that you are being sold young whisky as i would say there is plenty of older stuff in these bottlings.

The Macallan Estate Reserve is superb and the Macallan Oscuro is one of the best Macallans i have tasted, i have drunk 1 bottle of the Oscuro and have another to be opened on a special occasion unless i acquire another bottle then it will be opened immediately Very Happy
