Hi Blair and welcome to the SMW forum. Your post is fine here.
We will need a bit more info to help you. What exactly does it say on the label and box if it has one. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

Hi William
Thanks for the speedy reply.
I'm going to write exactly what's on the box
Rare malts selection
Natural cask strength
Single malt scotch whiskey
Aged 20yrs
Distilledb1978
Royal Brackla Distillery
Blah blah then
Limited edition
The bottle label reads No.05490
Any clues? |

Blair the Rare Malts Series was a premium malt whisky series created by Diageo. They bottled whisky from distilleries that were often closed or mothballed and they also bottled whisky from distilleries that were still producing but they usually bottled these at an older age often at twenty or more years of age and at cask strength. Some of these malts were very rare and wont be seen again.
Initially only available in duty free shops around the world but later on became available through specialist whisky shops.
The Rare Malts Series was bottled without chill filtering or added colour, and all whiskies in the series are generally considered to of the highest quality.
Your bottle was produced at the Royal Brackla distillery in the Highland whisky region, it tends to be a fruity, floral single malt but almost all the distilleries output goes into blended whisky which is how it made it into the rare malt series. Diageo no longer own the distillery, they sold it to John Dewars (Bacardi) in 1998 probably just after your bottle was released. _________________ There's no bad whisky. | Royal Brackla wont be as sought after as many of the whiskies in the rare malt series but you should still get a few pounds for it if you are looking to sell it. If you intend to drink it i dont think it will disappoint as Diageo did pick out some cracking cask for the series. |

| If you are looking to sell you could try contacting some whisky specialist shops such as The Whisky Exchange who buy as well as sell whisky or you could try scotchwhiskyauctions.com who runs a whisky auction every month which ends on the first Sunday of the month. Unfortunately ebay no longer allows whisky auctions. |
