see that 10, 12 and 15 year old are going to be replaced by a NAS in September. But 18 and above will be staying.
Not sure what to make of this, know some old men down the pub that are not going to be to happy though. |

| It is a brave move to drop the biggest sellers in there core range. I guess age doesnt matter to the Macallan. |

Wow, that's really hard to believe. I hope Macallan don't price themselves completely out of the regular every-day drinkers. Is that for both the Sherry Oak and the Fine Oak range?
What's the 1824 series like? I'd appreciate any impressions compared to the current standard bottlings, especially the 10. |

It will certainly be good to see new affordable to drink expressions (hopefully) of The Macallan but i will not be happy if the Macallan 12 disappears.
I wonder if this replacement will be taking place in all markets, if so when. If it is happening here i will certainly be stocking up on the Macallan 12.
Just a thought i wonder if The Macallan 1824 Series is the same as The Macallan 1824 Collection which is the current travel retail range |

Is this just a rumour or have the Macallan officially announced they are replacing most of the established core range. I would certainly miss the Macallan 12 if it is going. Seems a very strange move to drop there existing core range and replace it with an untested range unless they are replacing it with the now tested travel retail range.
No mention of this on the Macallan website or blog. |

I find it hard to believe they plan to drop the 12 year old in favor of a no age statement whisky.
Samson, I had a look at the Macallan website also but no mention of this as far as i can see. |

True think they let everyone know on the 26th. No idea why it is not on the web site. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

| I have looked on a few trade sites but they are not really saying that the new Macallan 1824 Series will replace the current core range (at least not immediately), looks to me like they will phase in the new range then perhaps phase out the old range. Perhaps they will guage how consumers are taking to the new range first before making such a big move with there core range whiskies. |

| I have to say the travel retail Macallan 1824 Collection i have tried have all been very good indeed and none of them has an age statement. I thought the Macallan Whisky Makers Edition was excellent. I wonder if they used travel retail as a testing ground for a new range/style for the domestic market. |

| From the the different sites i have looked at i would say the 10, 12 and 15 are on there way out and if you like them start buying them up before they start disappearing and increasing in price. |

I'd appreciate any impressions compared to the current standard bottlings, especially the 10. | The Macallan Select Oak is pretty good i would mark it 85/100 but quite different from the Fine Oak, it has plenty of sweet vanilla and butterscotch from the bourbon casks used in the mix and also some rich fruit from the sherry casks used.
The Macallan Whisky Makers Edition is superb again a mix of bourbon and sherry casks but the sherry has a much bigger influence in this one, toffee, dark chocolate orange some spice, i really liked this one. I would mark it 93/100
I have only sampled the Macallan Estate Reserve, i thought it was very good from what i tasted but i bought 2 bottles of the Macallan Whisky Makers Edition for the price i would have paid for this. |

I believe the Macallan 1824 Collection travel retail bottlings have been very successful in terms of number of bottles sold and the price per bottle (more expensive than the age statement bottles previously in travel retail). I am sure the Macallan has monitored this success and the increase in popularity with the new expressions in travel retail and now want to emulate this success in the domestic sales market.
Hopefully we see some good whiskies and not too expensive in the near future. |

I have had most of the travel retail Macallan 1824 Collection and they are all excellent, the Whisky Makers Edition stands out for me probably due to its quality/price but the Macallan Estate Reserve is excellent and the Macallan Oscuro is outstanding, i have had one bottle and got another which i will open on a special occasion.
The only one i havent had and probably will never have is The Macallan 1824 decanter which is around £1800 i believe, to date i think there has been a 2011 and now a 2012 release of the decanter.
Alexppp i would say that the notes on this page describe the Macallan 1824 Collection pretty well
http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/macallanmmxi1824collection.htm
It does look like i should stock up on the Macallan 12 as i probably average at least 1 bottle of this a month. |
