I got an email yesterday saying my signed copy was posted and on its way to me in Canada. I should be receiving it any day now. I enjoy his views and musings on a cornucopia of whisky varieties. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I will be getting a copy as usual.
He does seem to have a taste for Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye or is he playing to the big American market |

Maybe I'm putting one and one together and making three but I wonder if the sulphur issue had anything to do with Jim's dissociation from Unfiltered magazine (SMWS). Only in the latest issue of Unfiltered there was yet another piece damning people's 'lazy' dismissal of any sulphur influence as a taint.
I got the 2012 issue of the Bible. It wasn't as useful as I thought it might be in some regards (e.g. some whiskies get just scores with no notes) and I didn't always concur with the scoring, particularly of blends. I've also come to believe that a lot depends on the vatting. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

I enjoy Jim's perspectives, etc. However, I find that he tends to have a soft spot for the peaty drams especially from several or more distilleries from Islay and rates them often quite high. I myself love the peaty drams but I just thought I would make this observation. Any thoughts? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Any thoughts? | This is where a rating/points system is flawed when it comes to tasting as everyone is going to have a personal preference to certain styles of whisky, one persons 95/100 is anothers 85/100 but as others have said on here in the past his book is a great guide which will lead you to some great drams and lead you away from some not so good drams. Whether you totally agree with the points he has awarded each whisky or not it really is the best book of it kind available. |

To be fair he also awards some big marks to some non peaty whiskies. |

If anyone can be bothered looking up the following SMWS whiskies, and if they're in there, would you mind revealing the scores:
3.175 (Bowmore)
4.159 (Highland Park)
127.19 & 127.21 (Port Charlotte)
I've had all of these and thought they were great with the exception of the Bowmore which had a hint of the S word so I'd expect a mark down for this. Thanks! _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
