The last remaining Gordon & MacPhail Generations Glenlivet 70 year old has went on sale today. Gordon & MacPhail released the last 100 bottles of its Glenlivet 70 Years Old at the opening of the new World Duty Free at Vancouver International Airport.

I arrived home this evening to find a package from Gordon & MacPhail and that package contained no less than a sample of this the worlds oldest (well joint oldest) and most exclusive single malt Scotch whisky.

I have tasted a number of aged whiskies in my time but i can honestly say after tasting this, it is one whisky I wont forget, it truly is a piece of Scotland's whisky history, incredible. Damn, I want a whole bottle now.

You can read what i thought here:

William, I am very envious Mr. Green

The oldest i have tasted was the G&M Speymalt Macallan 1938 65 year old which was incredible and previously the oldest Scotch whisky ever until G&M released the generations series. I dont know what they are doing in the G&M warehouse but they must be doing something right for these cask to last so long.

Gordon & MacPhail Generations Glenlivet 70 Years Old was matured in a First Fill Sherry Butt, and bottled at cask strength (45.9% ABV).

That's really incredible! A first fill cask, 70 years matured, yet neither sherry nor oak have spoiled it and the abv is still high enough to bottle it as a single cask malt. As you say in your notes, it has defied the laws of nature.

As for the value of that dram, going by the CAD valuation and assuming a 50cl sample you just drank £1600 worth, I reckon that would keep my cabinet ticking over for a couple of years!

I am very envious also and it sounds like it was a great dram. A 70 year old, definitely one to remember. The incredible thing here is the number of bottles they got from the cask, i make it 200 full size plus the 20cl bottles they released last year.

What a wonderful experience William to have sampled such a special and memorable dram whose aromas and flavors will forever be imprinted upon you.

Carson, I wasn't going to buy a lottery ticket for tonight's draw here in Ontario, Canada but now that you mention it, it may be a good omen. The draw is for $25,000,000 dollars so if I won the big prize, I guess I wouldn't mind splurging on the Glenlivet 70. If I won, I might even consider the Dalmore Trinitas and keep looking at the bottles like some people do with fish in an aquarium.

Laughing

I had the pleasure of the Speymalt Macallan 1938 65 a few years ago at The Whisky Show in London, i agree another incredible whisky, i think you can still find this in some of the whisky shops.
