Not had this one but i have had the Fettercairn Fior which contains a drop of heavily peated whisky. It was ok but not one i would try again it was sweet, sherried with a bit of peat. It was enjoyable but i would say there is better out there for my money. Of course the Fettercairn Fasque may well be very different.

have just finished a glass of fettercaian fasque - nice whisky but not as good as Laphroag quarter cask or my favourite the Ardmore.
However we all have different tastes so dont be put off from trying a glass - leaves great afterglow that is very satisfying Smile

Thought I'd revive this thread. The Fettercairn Fasque is on offer in my local Tesco for around £25, about £10 off their normal price (also HP12 for less than £25 and Talisker 10 less than £26).

I am a little suspicious though. It's NAS, which isn't always a bad thing but there's been a lot of chat about this here lately and it certainly provides less of a reference point. It looks dark and sherried but there's only bumpf on the box and no actual info. Plus Fettercairn is in the same stable as Dalmore who are known for colouring their whisky heavily. Lastly Fettercairn is known as a 'rubbery' dram, i.e. a little sulphury. I think Jim Murray once referred to one of their releases as a 'fart in a glass'. For these reasons (and the fact I'd get 'ma baws toed' by the missus if I spent any more money on whisky right now) I put it back on the shelf. However it did make me curious, like Carson I wondered if it was particularly sherried?

LOL, it is one of those distilleries isn't it?! Perhaps best left on the shelf then.

Since Vijay Mallya acquired it there seems to have been a bit of a marketing makeover, the packaging has certainly become a lot slicker. I hear he's in negotiations to sell a chunk of his share in United Spirits to Diageo to prop up his airline, Kingfisher.

There is a piece in the Whisky News about him trying to sell

I see if Diageo does get control of United Spirits it would need to sell Whyte & Mackay which would include Fettercairn, Jura, Dalmore and Tamnavulin

But that could be a good thing as maybe the new owners wont be so heavy handed with the caramel coloring which in my my opinion you can taste without any doubt. I suppose then Richard Paterson the E150A caramel coloring king will be out of a job.

Apologies as it is a Fettercairn thread which i cannot condemn as i havent tried it due to my dislike for Dalmore and there artificial caramel coloring which adds a false taste IMO

Come on Big Mac, tell us what you really think! Laughing

I was put off the Fasque, even with discount, for the reasons I mentioned above but I was very suspicious of a NAS whisky with such a deep colour and especially given the liberal use of caramel in Dalmore. You can find out what goes into most NAS whiskies (Longrow CV, Laphroiag QC, Aberlour A'Bunadh, etc) online but I can't find anything about Fasque.
