Old Pulteney has unveiled its oldest expression to date - a new limited edition Old Pulteney 40 Year Old.

From ex American bourbon and Spanish sherry casks, it is bottled at natural strength and colour and is non chill-filtered. Priced at £1490 per bottle.

I was pleased to see Old Pulteney get the boost from Jim Murray as it does produce some good stuff and it doesnt have the huge advertising budget like other distilleries to get itself noticed. I think most of the big distilleries have a 40 year old now and i have tasted the Old Pulteney 30 which was excellent and i cant see why the 40 year old would be any different. It is out of my price range and most members here i would think but it is certainly not got the huge price tag some distilleries put on there 40 year old offerings. Good luck to Old Pulteney i say.

I was lucky enough to try the Old Pulteney 30 once at a whisky tasting , big lemon notes i remember, very drinkable Top Malt

There are some 40 yer old original distillery bottlings from some of the big brands for way less money. For example Glenfarclas 40 £275, Highland Park 40 £815 but these are not limited editions and to be fair most are around or well above the price of the Old Pulteney 40
