Are they nice, because my Sainsbury have them at £13,79 a bottle.
Ive bought 2 of each as they seem reasonable at that price. |

| I assume these are the Sainsburys own label 46% 50cl non chill filtered bottles, i have only had the Sainsburys own label 40% 70cl bottles with the Islay and Highland version being particularly good IMO. If the 40% bottlings are anything to go by these will have been a good buy. |

Those are the ones, Islay, Highland and speyside.
I figured they may be a good buy at that price. Anyone know what is actually in them? (Cue "whisky".."single malt" posts ) |

| I believe it is Ian Macleod that bottles Sainburys whisky so it wouldnt be a wild guess to say perhaps it could be Glengoyne in the Sainsburys Highland bottle |

So it would appear that it could be decent stuff. I wouldnt have paid the full price, but discounted that much means that it has to be worth trying.
Once my Dr lets me anyway! |

| I have had all 3 of the Sainsburys Taste the Difference 70cl bottles and all were very good. The Islay was excellent so was the Speyside and the Highland not far behind. Not sure if the 50cl 46% bottles are the same whisky bottled at a higher abv, if they are they should be very good. |

| I thought the Sainsburys Taste the Difference Islay 12 year old 70cl bottle was excellent value but i have had no luck getting hold of a 50cl bottle, i have tried 3 different stores. I am guessing it had only limited availability, perhaps Sainsburys were testing it to see if people would buy it and the test is now over and failed so they are selling it off. |

I'm not surprised if that's the case - their original price of £28.79 for not even a full-size bottle was ridiculous. It translates to around £40 for a full-size bottle, which is not an amount I'd pay for for an unnamed distillery, especially since there are loads of non-chill filtered whiskies available for a lot less. |

So would anyone who tried the 70 say that a 50 was worth just shy of £14? especially as they are non chill filtered.
And is there no way of finding out which distillery they actually come from? |

But it would make sense that the Highland malt could have come from Ian Macleods Glengoyne distillery. |

| I recall that Caol ila or Bunnahabhain were my candidates for what was possibly in the Sainsburys Islay malt but it was a while ago when i last had it. As with all supermarket bottlings the contents can change, just depends where they source the whisky, it may not be the same place since i last had it. |

I have bought all three and tried them last night, I bought two of each and will be returning one of each, the whisky is OK, (a nice gift for the price) I just thought that for the same money for a litre you could buy a better 70cl bottle which was more important to me, quality over quantity sums it up for me.
Hope this helps anyone interested in trying them. |

Ive tried the Islay. It could be caol ila.
I'll be opening the others each night for two drams from each (what the dr doesnt know wont hurt him)
As for returning bottles...good luck with that and £40 for a litre and a half (not a litre as Minesascotch says) is twice as much content as a 70cl, for the same price.
So far, I recommend the Islay as a decent whisky. Id like to know what others think. |

Sorry 5of12in1908 lost in translation, having bought two 50cl bottles of each = 1 Litre @£28 I could buy a 70cl of something better, as I said quality over quantily and if you return a product unopened to Sainsburys with a reciept you get your money back.
Let me know how you get on with the other two I thought the Islay may be Ardbeg ! I will try all three again tomorrow and see if my opinion has changed. |
