Hi
I am currently renovating an old house and I have found 4 bottles of old Scotch Whiskey, untouched hidden behind a build in sideboard. The guy that live there was very old and brought the house from new so I guess they have been there for some time.
The neighbours think that the sideboard was built in the 70's - We think they've been there since - but no one here knows anything about Whisky so we cant say for sure how old they are - is there any way to tell by the numbers stamped on the underside of the bottles?
We where thinking of putting these on Ebay, but thought we should ask the experts!
Oh - and this is where we found them (a picture of the sideboard before we dismantled it and found these sealed at the back underneath a turntable!
Cheers for your advice!!

Im going to have a guess at early 80's Dalmore might be worth £100 others less. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

They look like 1980s bottles to me. I cant see the bottle size or alcohal strength in the picture but these can help age the bottles.
In the UK up until 1980 standard size bottles were 26 2/3 flozs, they then changed to 750ml in 1980.
About 1991/1992 the EEC (or EU as they call it now) changed the standard size from 750ml to 700ml.
January 1st 1980 the UK switched from % Proof to % ABV measuring the strength of spirits.
Basically if your bottles are sized in flozs they are pre-1980s, if they are 750ml then they were bottled between 1980 - 1991/1992 and if they are 700ml they are post 1991/1992 . If the alcohol strength is % Proof then the bottles are pre-1980 and if they are %ABV then they are post-1980.
Also if they were bottled for the US market they would be 750ml/75cl |

That these bottles might be more desirable and in turn worth more if it can make someone post after three years. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

The Tomintoul Glenlivet 8 year old is quite rare to come by i think, i suspect they didnt produce much at this age it is more common to find the Tomintoul Glenlivet 12 year old. I believe it was bottled by the previous Tomintoul owners owners Whyte & Mackay, today the distillery is owned by Angus Dundee Distillers. In fact Dalmore and Fettercairn still belong to Whyte & Mackay to this day so perhaps whoever hid them away had some connection to Whyte & Mackay.
I have saw the Tomintoul Glenlivet 8 year old selling in whisky specialist shops in the past for up to £80 but if you were to sell it privately you may only get half that amount. The bottles do look in immaculate condition. |

| If you are looking to sell them you you should contact one of the specialist whisky auctions such as www.mctears.co.uk they should be happy to give you an estimate of what they may sell for. |
