Hi,
I have a bottle of Caol Ila Managers Dram, same as this one: http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-1622.aspx

The label has some discolouration (not sure if it is discoloured glue or damp marks - it has some brownish coloured spots on it). My question really is, how much does this affect the price of the bottle? I was surprised by the price of this on The Whisky Exchange but know from my time in the industry that the guy from TWE knows his stuff so guess it will be accurate. Many thanks for any replies.

Regards,
Gillian

Sounds like damp spots.

The price surprised me also £1500 Shocked

As far as the TWE price is concerned this is a shop price, in a private sale you may only get half that amount. I cant really say how much the label damage will effect it without seeing it, if its just a light stain i wouldnt think it wouldnt effect the price of such a rare whisky too much.

I think it is damp as it was stored in a loft before I got given it. I have sold some at auction and 50% shop value is about right but I was surprised at the jump that bottle had made this year Confused .

I have a few bottles that are similar with label damage so am curious about how it affects valuation.

Thanks,
Gillian
