Hello Everyone!

If you've read my first post you know that I have some people in Scotland that I can order my whisky to then have it brought to Canada!!!

That being said I have someone going to visit in July this year and am starting to look around for 2 bottles that I want brought back for me!!

I was hoping to get into something a little bit limited or collectory (sorry for the lack of a better word) instead of just getting a drinker for cheaper then I can get it here.

I was looking to keep each bottle under or right around 100 pounds.

Any suggestions coming in 2014 between now and then that I could pick up that may be worth something down the road. I don't know alot about that side of it, up till now I've just purchased interesting bottles that probably will never move in value.

The one so far I am watching for is the Livet guardian, anyone have any other suggestions??

Thanks in advance!

-Steve.

Maybe Glenmorangie Signet, here in the states it runs for about 250 USD.

Steve just keep your ear to the ground on here for news of limited release bottlings.

So far this year a couple of new release bottlings which i am aware of which are of interest are the Glenmorangie Companta which has just been released and the Glenmorangie Taghta which is set to be released later this year.

Not sure when the Diageo special releases come out but the 12yo Laga should be just about £100 this year.

The Diageo special releases are normally announced in September and start to appear on shelves around a month later.

There are the new Friends of Classic Malts series which has just been launched which wont be available in Canada, there will be 5 whiskies in the series, so far there is a Talisker and Royal Lochnagar but i cant comment on them as i havent tried them yet. http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/friendsoftheclassicmalts.htm

What about any of the D&L limited bottling stuff? Will they ever increase in value or just basically drinking scotch in fancy boxes?

I have a old and rare platinum jura 18 1/120 bottles filled ( I dont think they offer this line anymore)

and a Directors cut Blair Athol 16 1/124 bottles filled.

Will these independent bottlers ever increase in value? or should I stick to stuff from the actual distilleries themselves as far as trying to invest in limited's?

Thanks!

If you're buying for investment always get the best limited edition release that you can afford from a distillery. Not necessarily saying that they are better, but for resale, it's going to be tons easier selling a bottle to matey in China when he can easily recognise it.

I have several independent bottlings, unless super rare, are never going to command the same values.

That said, I often find it strange when bottlings such as the Jura you mention are made is such little quantities, that you would expect them to command a premium purely based on the amount there are of them. One would thought that if there's only a run of 120, then perhaps, in a few years time (well 15+) would be highly sought after. Who knows?

Always stick to the distillery official bottles. You'll struggle to get a return on an indi bottle.

Some closed distilleries whether original distillery bottlings or indie bottlings will alway do well but other than that i agree with albo, stick to distillery bottlings. You usually cant go wrong with limited releases from iconic distilleries such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie and Ardbeg
