Just wondered what everyone was planning to see the new year in with, be it at the bells, the lead up to the bells, or just after.
I am planning on openeing a bottle tonight, but I'm not sure which one yet.
It will be one of the following (I think)
Glen Moray SMWS bottle a 10yr old Chardonnay finish, I beleive the official 10yr old Chardonnay finish is one to avoid, so I don't have that high hops for this bottle, but you never know at cask strength and from a single cask it may be a winner (it's one I got as part of a cask end sale so haven't tasted it)
A Benrinnes 9yr old SMWS bottle, from the same cask end sale so I've not tried this either. Though I'm sure this will be good enough, probably not excellent, but enjoyable.
Glenmorangie QR
Old Pulteney 17
Talisker 10
Laga 16. |

| Or in fact what was your dram to see in the new year, depending on where in the world you are right now! |

Just came home from the grocery store to collect some goodies for tonight including a fresh lemon meringue pie, one of my favorites. As for drams for tonight, I 've been pondering that for a bit now. Last night, I opened my first bottle of Tomintoul 21 Year Old and was most impressed. So tonight I will have another dram of the Tomintoul 21 followed by a Lagavulin 1995 Pedro Ximenez Finish, Distiller's Edition and perhaps a third dram of something else, perhaps Aberlour 16. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I'll probably have some Maxwell 33 and/or SMWS 29.121, 20yo sherry-casked Laphroaig preceded by a little prosecco.
I'm looking forward to Only an Excuse, which for the non-Scots is an irreverent comedy retrospective lampooning the year's football stories. It's really not that funny (oh, there's the punchline on the horizon!) but it's traditional! Slainte! _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

Oli, I have a neat story about football or what we call here in Canada , soccer. Some years ago, when David Beckham was playing for Real Madrid a friend of mine in Spain who had access to the locker room got a pair of David's golden boots, had David sign both of them and he sent them to me. So there's a signed pair of D.B.'s boots sitting on top of my television. Thought you would enjoy that little anecdote. I watch Barclay's Premier League quite regularly on TV and I root for Liverpool. I often have a dram of Lag 16 when I watch. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Drinking a Macallan 18 at the moment, heading out to see the new year in with some friends and taking a bottle of Highland Park 18 with me, a great dram and good for sharing with those not to familiar with single malts. |

Actually, I started the festivities early with my own vatted malt creation that I discussed in the past on the Forum. Taste notes were posted earlier in December.
I had a dram each of my:
Scottish Jelly Roll "Peat & Sweet"
Small Batch Release 1 of 2
12 Year Old
Blended/Vatted Malt
and Small Batch Release 2 of 2
of the same expression.
These really turned out to be quite tasty and complex and I will have to pour them sparingly as they are the only two in existence.

Wow, that's some story! My wife is an Evertonian as it happens. Scottish football has a great heritage but it's very parochial and the action off the pitch is often more dramatic than on it, good comedy material. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

Finished off the bottle of Aberlour 10, it was either getting put down the sink or down my neck, so the neck it went, there was about 4 drams worth of it left, now I'm on the Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength, this certainly tastes much better having drank a none peated whisky beforehand.
Happy 2013 to all, going the pub soon. |

that bad? I recall it being a little rough around the edges with a touch of sulphur but not terrible. Could have been good fodder for whisky macs or unwelcome visitors. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
