I wonder if you could help. I've got in mind a few characteristics that i'd love to find in a whisky, Scotch yes, but i'm open to other varieties.

Welcome to the forum. Personally I'm not sure about all those notes together, but I can get malty, biscuity and toffee notes from a number of Glengoynes - the 12 and the 15 for instance. No tobacco though, and no coffee. Hints of tobacco can be present in heavily sherried whiskies, a couple of Glenfarclas can come to mind - the 15 off the top of my head. Same with coffee, in my experience I can mostly detect it in sherried whiskies, in this case the Glendronach 15 in my opinion.
From reading others' tasting notes (but not personal experience), maybe you can get a Dalmore that combines a lot of these characteristics at the same time, however Dalmores tend to be overpriced and the presentation is certainly not natural.
What's the upper limit of your budget? |

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard that this one is heavily sherried, so not really my thing, i don't think. |

| Ah, so heavily sherried is not your thing, I take back the Glenfarclas and Glendronach recommendations then. Glengoyne is not heavily sherried, at least not until you get to the 21 year old. But as far as the tobacco notes go, I mostly tend to get them in sherried malts, so I'm not sure. Perhaps a Springbank? The 12 year-old Cask Strength is amazing. |

Unfortunately not into too much sherry, at least not yet. I'm trying to come to like a bottle of Mortlach Flora and Forna range I've got, and it's growing on me - tasting more butterscotch-like now.
Springbank...well i've tried a Hazelburn 12 and really enjoyed it. The cask strength 12 i'd love to try, but....there must be some way people get to hear about when cask strength bottlings come out. Perhaps by newsletter. |

| The Springbank 12 is part of their core range, it's not a limited edition or anything. Although it doesn't appear to be in stock in either TWE or Master of Malts at the moment, maybe they're out of the current batch and a new one is coming soon. |

Ah, I jumped to conclusions when I saw it wasn't available! I'll keep a look out.
I'm surprised there isn't a "cask strength news" type thread here. |

| It might be worth finding a friend with a Scotch Malt Whisky Society membership and spend the afternoon in one of their bars? All of the whisky is single cask, cask strength and flavour driven rather than distillery. So it would be relatively simple to go in and ask for some of the flavours that excite you and perhaps sample whisky from distilleries you might never have considered. The kicker is the membership is £150 - hence finding a friend..! |
