Hi,
I have been asked to source a 1953 bottle of whisky from my friends wife as a secret present, he will be 60 in February next year.
So far I have found 3x G&M bottles around £400-800 price range,
Glen Avon, Glen Grant & a StrathIsla.
I have found others £1000+ which is way out of her price range.
Apart from the G&M bottles does anyone else have any other suggestions..?
Cheers

I would suggest having a look on Ebay, Whisky Online Auctions (every month) and Scotch Whisky Auctions (every month). If there are any for sale before February they should be less than £400. Postage is also very reasonable for these auctions (Scotch Whisky Auctions is Glasgow based so you could collect). You could try Mctears who have an auction on 9th January as you could colllect the bottle as they are based just outside Glasgow. If you give them all a call I'm sure they will be able to tell you if they have any in the auction coming up. Scotch Whisky Auctions have hundreds of clients and may well know someone who has a bottle that's suitable - I'd give them a call.

whisky-onlineauctions.com
scotchwhiskyauctions.com
Mctears.co.uk
As for buying at retail I think the 3 you mentioned are about the only reasonably priced for that age if you were thinking of drinking. Hope this helps.

Hi Keith, thanks for the reply.
I have had a look at most places you have mentioned, I'll wait and see what crops up in the next auctions and might send them an email if no 1953 bottles surface.
I have sourced through a friend the StrathIsla for £416, which seems a good deal but it is not my money I am spending.
This bottle will be getting opened as he does not collect and I hope I get offered a wee dram for all my efforts
Cheers

That's the best payoff of all...a wee dram. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I have had a few bottles of older vintage Glen Grant in the past bottled by Gordon & Macphail and i have never been disappointed. I have found the older G & M Glen Grants are great value when compared to distillery bottlings.
I havent had the plaeasure of the Gordon & Macphail Glen Grant 1953 but it was matured in first fill and refill sherry casks and G & M describe it as being a big, bold sherried malt. I see The Whisky Exchange have it for £500 at the moment. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky.

Near Stirling so not that far away from Edinburgh.
I have sourced the StrathIsla for £416, which seems a good price.
Thanks, any help is most appreciated

| That price for the Strathisla is the trade price I can get, If you are lucky enough to get a dram let us know what you thought. I have the 40yo Strathisla and love it. |

Update, my friend's wife decided against buying a bottle of 1953, having a surpise party instead.
However I have managed to get two tickets for the Glenfarclas Anniversary tour, part of the Speyside festival, which he will get to taste a 1953 whisky, I am going also
Thanks "edinburghlandlord" for helping out with prices etc
Cheers |

Hi,
It's my dad's 60th in June and I would love to get him a 60 year old Whisky.
I've looked on Google and I'm struggling to find one.
Can anyone recommend one or point me in the direction where I might be able to find one please?
Many thanks,
