|
|
William Grant have launched the Glenfiddich Celebration 125th Anniversary Edition, a new travel retail exclusive limited edition bottling to mark the 125th anniversary of the Glenfiddich.
It is a vatting of peated and unpeated Glenfiddich, of different ages, matured in a variety of casks - the usual American ex-Bourbon but with a large percentage of Spanish ex-sherry butts which give the whisky depth and complexity. The unusual depth and smokiness found in this whisky are a result of the unique peated Glenfiddich whisky in the vatting which was matured mainly in European oak casks.
The 43% ABV, 70cl bottle, is presented in a luxury gift tin with stag embossing, accompanied by an official certificate of authenticity, leaflet with product story and tasting notes, and an etched solid copper stopper.
Destined to become a collectable expression of Glenfiddich, the Glenfiddich Celebration 125th Anniversary is available during this festive season in travel retail markets around the globe Priced around £70.

At the Whisky Fringe this year, albo and I tried one of the Glenfiddich half-time oranges, which was a heavily peated Fiddy. IIRC the rep suggested that the new make spirit had been put in a cask that had previously held peated whisky - we surmised an Islay distillery as it was really full on. I wonder if it was from the stock that went into this bottling.
The Snow Phoenix was a great investment for collectors even with 60k bottles, this should be too - any word on how many bottles have been released? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

I saw it at Glasgow airport last Friday when i passed through but i didnt get a chance to taste it as i was getting a late flight and the girls who offer samples had finished for the day. It is the World of Whiskies malt of the month so it should be available for sampling at all World of Whiskies shops for the month of December. I will be through Glasgow airport again on Friday this week, hopefully i can get a taste and decide whether to buy some.
Over the past 10 years Glenfiddich have occasionally distilled from peated malt for a week, and this is a vatting of peated and unpeated Glenfiddich, at different ages, matured in a variety of casks.
Not sure of how limited a release this is, i have asked for numbers and i will let you know if i get an answer. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

I wonder if i would get away with booking a one way budget flight, passing through the travel retail shop at the airport then deciding not to fly then leaving the airport with my whisky purchases |

I have often thought about this and see no reason why you couldn't do that. Nothing stopping you picking up the bottle as all you need is your boarding card, nothing then stopping you leaving hte airport. |

I have been told that there is approximately 5000 X 9 litre cases, so assuming some may be bottled at 70cl and some 75cl, depending on which market it is destined for then i would estimate that it will be limited to around 60,000 bottles worldwide. _________________ There's no bad whisky. There's some great travel market bottles over in your neck of the woods. Here in Canada, we have Duty Free stores which sell liquor but that's for travelling between the Canada and USA corridor and you are really limited to what you can bring back, usually to 1 bottle. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
