Spammers Are A Waste of Space

Today a spammer- with the name "apopexikave" posted on every single topic on the Forum senseless junk and spam. He is still on as I am writing this post. He supposedly originates from Chile. He should be ashamed of himself for trying to corrupt what is for us "real members" and contributors is a comfortable and informative site to explore and enjoy the culture of whisky and single malts. William goes to such great pains to make this site and the Forum a center of excellence for whisky aficionados and does what I consider an amazing job. I feel bad especially for him each time a spammer corrupts the site and William has to waste his time removing these intruders. A spammer is like someone who would rather pour a full bottle of rare scotch down the drain so that no one else could ever enjoy it.

Thanks for your support Murray. They posted 10 minutes after i last checked the forum, unfortunately there will always be some that get through the registration process and when they do they use an automated program to start posting spam and it takes time to clean up. In all the years since starting the site it has never been as bad as it is now, 99% of the spammers come from either the Ukraine, Russia or Southern China and they are attempting to register 24 hours a day.

From the site statistics I know the site gets a lot of traffic from Russia and China and is referenced on a number of Russian and Chinese websites and whisky forums and i would not like to block whole countries from viewing the site but it may come to that.

Well William, I have to say you could do a better job! 4 hours sleep should be more than adequate and theres no reason you cant have 2 screens open at the same time. A laptop would ensure toilet breaks wouldnt be an "open window" either.

Just to let everyone know that i have changed my user name (Onlyhalfmad). Was on another V bulliten forum that was hacked. So everything i used was compramised tried to alter my old profile and it went tits up.

Its been a hellish couple of days trying to sort things, lucky i use more than one password so certain things were ok.

Its quite sad that you have to do that, as I've not doubt more of the visits from there will have been from genuine people than the spammers (spanners).
