|
|
Jura distillery has added a new, limited-edition vintage port cask finished expression to its collection - the Jura 1977 which by my calculations makes it around 35 years old.
This uniquely crafted vintage from the Isle of Jura distillery takes its name from the Gaelic word for the Yew tree, the Yew tree has long been associated with immortality and regeneration, with some even believing it gives access to the "otherworld", although Jura are not promising immortality and regeneration if you buy a bottle, if they were I would have bought a few bottles.
I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong but this is the first Jura port cask finished whisky that i can recall which adds to its uniqueness and it should be interesting. A port finish is usually very appealling to most whisky drinkers when done with a quality port cask which i assume they have used considering it was just a one off limited edition. If it is the quality of teh excellent Jura 1976 it should be excellent.
More about it here and a tasting note:

I bet it's a real good one. I did have the Jura 21 year old 200th Anninversary Edition at a tasting and it was great _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

It would have been half that amount or less not so long ago. My guess is the distilleries know they can ask this money now with the increasing big money buyers from eastern markets.
I am sure it is a lovely whisky but it will have to go on my "when i win the lottery list". |

There is a cheaper alternative, but not by much, the Jura 1976 'Feith A' Chaorainn' which means 'The lands around the Rowan Tree' is available from The Whisky Exchange for £469, this expression is highly rated by whisky critics, in fact Jim Muray scored it 94.5/100
Berry Brothers & Rudd also offer a couple of Jura 1976 vintages - Jura 1976 / 35 Year Old / Cask #888 and Jura 1976 / 35 Year Old / Cask #889 both priced at £195. I would guess that cask 888 would be the more popular as some people/cultures consider the No 8 lucky. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

The prices at the top end are getting way beyond most people for drinking, if i was to consider this i would have to read some great reviews or sample it first.
Its has put me in the mood for a port finish whisky, going to pour a Balvenie 21 Portwood finish |

| I have noticed many of the online whisky shops are out of stock of the Balvenie 21 Portwood and wondered if the Balvenie are running low in stock of the Portwood or perhaps they are phasing it out. Some of he shops that do still have it, have it at an inflated price. |
