I have my tasting at the Order of the Companions of the Quaich tomorrow night in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The drams are Glen Keith 19 Years (Bourbon cask),
COQ Benriach 18 Years (Sherry Cask), 56.7 abv and Clynelish 15 Years. We're also given the option to buy a bottle from the club at a reduced rate. Dinner is also included.
I will of course provide a report on the drams afterwards.
Very Happy

Thanks Alastair. I's a great bunch of folks there and often the drams are quite unique.

I like the sound of the Benriach 18 Years (Sherry Cask), 56.7 abv

Sounds like another good night Murray. I have tried a few different indie bottlings of Glen Keith in the past and they have been varied quality, i think it was mainly down to the cask used to mature it.

Hopefully you get a good one as it can be very good when matured in a good cask and not a single malt you see often. I have a bottle of Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask Glen Keith 1993 18 year old cask no. 7671 in the cupboard which i havent opened yet but i have been told it is a good expression by someone who's opinion i trust.

The Benriach sounds good also, enjoy your night.

Heading off to the tasting in less than 4 hours from now. Glad the weather isn't bad today as it would not be a pleasant drive in a snow storm. It's clear with no forecast of snow tonight. The extravagant meal with the tasting is also pretty neat. One of the main course options is:

Whiskey Braised Lamb Shank
with Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes & Roasted Root Vegetables

Sounds interesting!

I had a great time at the tasting last night. The drams were really most enjoyable as was the company. The star of the evening was the Benriach 18 Year, 56.7% abv, an Official Distiller Bottling for the Companions of the Quaich, 1994, limited edition from a single sherry butt with only 246 bottles produced. This was the pick of 6 cask samples. My taste notes for this glorious dram as well as the others will be posted today in the appropriate section of the Forum.

The Address to the Haggis was pretty impressive last night. The funny part was the reciter poured some of the single malt on the opened haggis and as usual the piper was later given a dram. The one he was given was the now 1/2 dram used on the haggis. The convener brought the house down when he let that tidbit out.

William, the long story jokes that the M.C. tells during the dinner in his heavy Scottish accent are great and the punch lines hilarious.
