Sitting here this early morning contemplating whether to drive the 60 kilometer return trip for an appointment booked 2 months ago with a full scale winter storm in effect here in Ontario. At least 25 centimeters of snow expected with 3 centimeters per hour right now and wind, ridiculous. The weather man just said it's snowing to beat the band. All schools even university closed. I still have an hour to decide...."Only in Canada" as the tea commercial used to say.
Update: I decided to stay home. Looked outside. It's impossible out there.
In any event, this afternoon I can relax and have a few drams, something to warm me up. Might go "peaty". _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| I think you made the right decision, in that weather there could be a good chance that whoever you have the appointment with wouldnt be there. |

Better safe than sorry! To edify my appreciation of Canadian culture, is tea a common beverage in Canada as opposed to coffee? Obviously the UK has a reputation as being tea-obsessed but coffee has certainly gained a strong foothold now (and instant coffee is possibly not as prevalent). _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

I would say fresh brewed coffee is still king here but tea is served and enjoyed in homes and establishments everywhere in Canada and there are fancy tea drinks to compete with the fancy coffee mixed expresso' s, lattes, etc. I think some of this acceptance and enjoyment of tea dates back to Canada's close association with Great Britain as well as the modern Commonwealth. I prefer Typhoo decaffinated tea myself, black.

| Snow can be lovely to look at but no good if you have to travel in it, definitely not a night for venturing out, enjoy your drams later. |

Hi William. I haven't seen it this bad in a long time and I have been through countless Canadian winters. I think it's up to 4 to 5 centimeters of snow per hour and it 's supposed to snow all day and part of the night and it's still just past noon here. The wind is also supposed to raise as the day proceeds. I am looking forward to some drams. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I hope the snow storm passed ok, they say we may get some snow on Sunday but nothing on the scale you get it. It is something that looks good in pictures but causes so much disruption.
Hope you enjoyed your drams, i have been on the peaty stuff myself tonight, Lagavulin |

James, the storm has settled with just flurries right now but I expect we had around 35 centimeters of snow today, about 14 inches with no visibility for driving for most of the day. I stayed home. The drams were great and created warmth even when looking at the spectacle through the windows. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I heard on CBC news that 3 people have died and there has been over 200 car accidents in Ontario.
You certainly made the wise choice to stay at home today. |

Thanks for your concern Mac. I made the right call for sure staying home yesterday. Looking out the window this morning, it's a winter wonderland out there. White everywhere on the ground and trees but no snow falling any longer and the sun is expected today. It will take a long time for plows to clean up. It's also -14 degrees celsius so it's cold out there too. I'll venture out this morning to get a lay of the land so to speak. This afternoon a few drams and relax. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
