**WARNING**

A Bottle of EMPTY Black Bowmore has recently sold on Ebay Germany for £680 / 805 Euro.
I think that it is extremely weird for an EMPTY bottle!

So do you think that this bottle will be used and become a FAKE?
Please pass on the bottle number - (55 of 827) incase this is the case to anyone you know that is looking to buy a bottle.

So remember if you are offered Old / Rare Whiskies cheap, think - Is it to good to be true????

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251220740060?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

This sort of thing can only increase with the increasing success and value of Single Malt Whisky
So do you think that whisky companies should be doing more to combat whisky fakes by introducing authenticity techniques. .

You bring up a very relevant issue here JAB regarding how to safe guard against fake high end whisky. Currency has adopted hologram technology as part of ensuring authenticity of product. Perhaps an unopened bottle of spirits can adopt an off-shoot of this technology. Any others ideas on how to do it?

There is no danger of me buying a Black Bowmore fake or real.

Seriously well spotted JAB, it really doesnt add up that anyone would pay that much for a empty bottle.

It is a difficult one for whisky companies to combat and fakers are so good these days all they need is the bottle and the box and a good faker good probably make any bottle look unopened.

So true

My rules are, stick to big auction houses for expensive bottles and always have a good look at the bottle (Cap / seal / labels) and remember -

If you are offered Whiskies cheap, think - Is it to good to be true????

I have always been very wary of buying from ebay. I would hope whisky auctions are cautious but when the fakers get hold of the original bottle and box it would be difficult for anyone to identify it as fake.

Looks like there was a bit of a bidding war for it with 17 bids. I suppose it is aways possible someone was after the wooden box as they already have a bottle.
