|
|
Hi, I cracked open the Macallan Gold at the weekend, with two other whisky friends.
I did a blind tasting with them, more I did not tell them what was in the glass.
1x blind taste thought the age was a 3 year old whisky, the other guessed 5 years, I knew what I was drinking but reckoned it was around 5 years also.
1x would not drink it again, 1x would and I have the bottle to finish!
Overall, we were left really disappointed with this, we reckon Macallan are using younger whisky and keeping it the same price as what the 10yr was.
Does anyone know the true age of the Gold.....?

Thinking about this logically or cynically depending on your view point.
They didn't drop the age statement to put the same age or older whisky in the bottle. |

Been waiting to hear some opinions from those brave enough to get a bottle. On this evidence it sounds like it might be worse than I feared. On one level I can understand their desire to cash in but what price can you put on a trusted brand if you then proceed to trash it? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

I havent tried it but i did like the Macallan 10 so i thought i would watch for the Macallan Gold going on offer in one of the big supermarkets, i dont think i will bother now. |

| I havent tried it and unless the price was more attractive i am unlikely to try it as i have a big choice of whiskies for £35 which i already know is good. I wonder if dropping the age statement expresions will turn out to be a major mistake by Macallan. |

Tried it, didn't like it, will never buy a bottle esp. at that price. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

| Sounds like the Macallan needs to take a look at what they are doing and question who is advising them about their whisky or they will damage there brands reputation. |

| Tried it at a whisky show last year didn't like it, just been in Sainsburys it is reduced by £9.99 to £26.99 says it all for me, nowhere near the old 10 year old. |

Worth it at £27? Or is it just no good at all? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

Bifter
I would not say it was bad, I would not buy it, there are better out there for the price at the moment. |
