Hi all .. I have a question I have come across a bottle of Glenfiddich special old reserve in the back of my mothers drink cabinet .. No idea how long it has been there but it has never been opened .. But when turning the bottle there is white' ish particles floating around in the liquid gold .. Does anyone know if it is still ok to drink or is it bits of cork maybe or just bits from the cask from the bottling stage .. Also any idea how I could find out a age of it .. Thanks in advance I think I will cry if I can't drink it pouring any single malt away would be soul destroying lol

Welcome to the Forum. It's likely about 20-25 years old, possibly older. I would say it's probably bits of cork floating in there which you can find out quick enough when you open it and examine the cork. I have a similar bottle that was actually opened over 20 years ago and it was still quite drinkable (it was almost full). I agree, it is probably bits of cork. Was the bottle stored upright or on its side? The reason i ask is if stored on its side then the strength of the alcohol would eventually rot the cork.
As far as I know it was stood upright .. Should I just sieve the bits out then ..i know its probably quiet a cheapish bottle but a single malt is too good to throw away .. Thanks for you're advice
If the whisky is not cloudy and smells ok then it should be fine. Have you removed the cork to confirm that it is bits of the cork floating about in the whisky.
