It is very rare to see a new addition to the Talisker core range and I am sure the many fans of this popular island distillery will be very pleased to hear that today Talisker announced the first of some exciting new expressions that we can expect to see joining the Talisker family of whiskies in 2013.

Talisker Storm the first of these new expressions was created by Diageo's master blenders from both rejuvenated and refill casks at different ages, it has been bottled at the traditional Talisker strength of 45.8% ABV, and has no age statement.

I have been told in price terms Talisker Storm will sit somewhere between the Talisker 10 and the Distillers Edition expressions so I would estimate around £40.

In the early months it will be available in Western Europe, i have asked whether there are plans to roll it out worldwide and will let you know when i find out.

I havent tried Talisker Storm yet myself but have posted more info and the producers tasting notes here:

www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/taliskerstorm.htm

Hopefully i will get to taste it soon and i will let you know what i think of it.

I will look forward to trying it, a bit disappointed in the price (if it idoes turn out to be around £40) though with it being no age statement but i guess Talisker are confident it is going to be worth it.

I do like Talisker so another bottle in the core range is always welcome.

It looks very interesting - I wonder what its flavour profile will be like, I don't think there's a need for a no-age statement that's similar to the 10 but more expensive, and after all they have the excellent 57 Degrees North for a stronger version of the 'traditional' Talisker style.

Having said all that I will certainly be buying it, I'm a sucker for Taliskers!

I hope it makes it to Canada. I do enjoy the Talisker expressions.

It does look quite rich in colour, could be a bit of sherry or some type of red wine cask influence but i suppose it could also be a fake tan. From the tasting note it sounds quite a spicy Talisker.

I too am left puzzled where this fits in with the 10 and 57 North. Puzzled but excited!

It looks like Diageo are now starting to go down the NO AGE STATEMENT road with there single malts in the same way they have started doing it with the Johnnie Walker range such as Johnnie Walker Double Black and Johnnie Walker The Spice Road

I will look forward to trying this but i do believe price should be proportional to the age of the whisky in the bottle.

You will find it here: Talisker Storm

"We wanted to focus on distillery character - the bedrock of Talisker Storm. So we sought out some great mature Talisker, enriched and mellowed by time spent in carefully rejuvenated casks, and brought that together with some very fresh distillery character preserved by maturation in refill casks. The result is Talisker's unique distillery character delivered by aged, mature whiskies, integrated in one vibrant dram."

Translation

Knackered old casks not good enough for an expensive release mixed with very young whisky.

That press release really has had somefun poked at it on twitter. Joking aside though i do hope it turns out to be decent.

Haha, yes. As long as they don't have any plans to drop the 10 year-old (a la Macallan), I'm looking forward to this despite their reasons for bottling it like that.
