A few weeks ago i was surfing the net and came across a website owned by Neat Glass
http://www.neatglasscanada.com/ A great video all about the science behind it.
They described how by accident a whisky drinker who took up glass blowing accidentally created a glass which looks a lot like a pot still. When he ran out of his regular whisky glasses one day, he picked up this glass he had made and surprisingly, the nose of the dram was opened and so much more aromatic that he started to research what was going on and the result was the Neat Glass which is now chosen judging Glass for the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and 2012 Best New Bar Product Award by Vegas Seven Magazine.
I finally received my 2 glasses today. I couldn't wait to try the Neat glass so I had a dram after lunch. I poured a Caol Ila Distiller's Edition-Moscatel. I am very impressed indeed. Let me compare the nose of this Caol Ila expression using the traditional Glencairn versus the Neat glass. With the Glencairn glass on the nose in a previous tasting I had a week ago: Smoke, peat, iodine, sherry notes and sea breeze. However, nosing with the Neat glass: Cherry blossoms, maple fudge, caramelized honey, smokehouse hues, floral elements and caramelized Vidalia onions. Quite an opening and elaboration of aromas with the Neat glass. It works!
Has anyone tried the Neat glass? I posted the web address above. I got mine from British Columbia, Canada from that site. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Quite different looking, I havent come across the neat glass before now. I am a sucker for trying different style glasses. Although i do like to recline back in the chair with a long stemmed glass so i can hold the glass in my hand by the stem without warming the whisky, i couldnt do that with the neat glass. |

The neat glass looks smaller and more concentrated than the Bowmore glass and as you say more flared.

Hi Keith,
I just took a photo of 3 whisky glasses:
The one on the left is the traditional Glencairn Glass,
The middle one is the Canadian Maple Leaf Whisky Glass (LCBO)
The one on the right is the Neat Glass.

| Cheers Quaich1, that gives me a better idea of the size of the neat glass. I guess you could hold the neat glass by the flared rim to prevent you from warming the whisky if yoou cupped it in your hand, as Richard Paterson is known for saying,if he ever saw you cupping the whisky glass in the palm of your hand he would have to kill you. |
