Highland Park have announced the release of the second section of its build your own mini Viking long ship kit, just kidding.
They have announced the release of the 2nd bottling in their Valhalla Collection. Highland Park Loki 15 year old which has been matured in both traditional Spanish sherry casks and also some heavily peated casks (whatever they are?) Bottled at 48.7% abv.
Not sure of the numbers in this release. Thor, the first release in the collection was 23,000 bottles so i would guess it will be around the same.
Bottled at 48.7% abv, comes housed in the same unique Viking long ship wooden frame as Thor and will be available from specialist whisky retailers, RRP of £130.

RRP $250 in the USA.
HP getting some criticism for this one - as they did for Thor.
21,000 bottles. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

I asked Highland Park for more info on the "heavily peated casks" they have used to mature the Highland Park Loki.
They have told me that they had a small number of casks with spirit which was crafted using non-Orcadian peat, due to issues in obtaining the traditional aromatic peat at the time. So instead of smoking the barley with the Orkney peat, it was instead smoked with peat from the mainland, Caithness to be specific. This peat has an entirely different composition therefore influencing the final spirit in a more defined way than that of the aromatic peat inherent to the Highland Park character. _________________ There's no bad whisky. | I really thought after the criticism they got for Thor they would have upped the age and treated their fans to something special 21 years plus as you can pick up the core range Highland Park 21 for under £100 |

| I wonder what the issues in obtaining the traditional aromatic peat were? And i wonder if it could be connected with reviews which have said Highland Park 12 peat levels can be inconsistent. |

I am sure others will be like me, simply not attracted to whisky of this age for this kind of price. |
