Teachers bottles looked like this in the 1940s:
1960s not much change:
1970s more like it is today:
1980s:
Today:
There was a Teacher's Royal Highland 12 year old bottled in the1980s in a dumpy bottle:
A picture would help plus all the details off the label, info such as bottle size and alcohol strength can sometimes help determine when a whisky was bottled. |

Going by your pics the bottle size is 75cl and it was bottled at 43% ABV. This can help roughly date the bottle.
Up until January 1st 1980 the UK used the Sikes system of measuring the proof strength of spirits, they then changed to the system we use today - Percentage of Alcohol by Volume (% ABV) at a temperature of 20 degrees C. So this tells us your whisky was bottled after January 1st 1980 assuming it was bottled for the UK market.
Also in 1980 in the UK the standard size changed from 26 2/3 flozs to 750ml. Along with the rest of Europe the size changed again in 1992 to 700ml. This confirms your whisky if bottled for the UK market was bottled between 1980 and 1992.
My guess is it is from the early 1980s and was replaced by the bottle of Teacher's Royal Highland 12 year old which Alastair has posted a picture of.
Hope that helps. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |
