Hello Fellow Forum Fellows
I am of to Australia for the British & Irish Lions Rugby Tour next week, I will be staying at Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney, I would be grateful for any information on Australian whisky worth trying and whisky bars to visit at those four locations.
Thanks in advance. |

Recently down under for a wedding I tried a couple from the Tasmanian distillery (Lark). Not recommended - I know my favourites are powerful drams but I can appreciate subtle .... just nothing going on for me, could have been a cheap blend. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

In the Melbourne central district, whisky bars include Whisky & Alement; 1806 and Eau de vie (bit of a challenge to find that one). Moving further away, there's Cure and Baranows (which is also a cigar bar) .
Australian whiskies my friends & I enjoy, but can't guarantee you'll find in the bars: Overeem (particularly the cask strengtha), some recent Smiths (especially the cask strength) and Hellyers Road isn't bad. Timboon is OK and you may come across a NZ whisky along the way. And a Sullivans Bay (can't recall which, sorry) was quite acceptable. That said, it's a personal thing and you never know until you try. (And we seem to return to Scottish SMWs!)
Enjoy OZ & I hope the Wallabies thrash you!! (At least once.)

| And FYI, Whisky & Alement is a new name; the bar was previously called Chez Regine. |

I thought this may be of interest, it is from the whisky magazines "Great Whisky Bars of the World". I cant vouch for any of the bars but i would assume they all offer a decent selection of whisky to make it into the publication.
