THE creater of World Whisky Day says that a national holiday should be created to mark Scotland's national drink.

Blair Bowman, 23, a student at Aberdeen Univeristy, attracted international attention last year when he launched the event.

The second World Whisky Day will take place this Saturday.

The entrepreneur registered the World Whisky Day web address before heavily promoting the concept on social media.

The idea took with Twitter and Facebook full of mentions from whisky drinkers around the world toasting the day with a dram.

And now the Aberdeen student says that momentum is growing for a national holiday centred around our national spirit. Bowman said: "We have International Beer Day, World Gin Day and World Vodka Day - and I believe that is celebrated with a holiday in Mexico.

"I think that it's about time we had a day off to mark World Whisky Day here in Scotland.

"I've been talking to MSPs like Kevin Stewart in Aberdeen. He is trying to get St Andrew's Day recognised as an official holiday and he has told me that if he succeeds, World Whisky Day could be the next one on his list.

"I've also had three motions appear in front of Parliament and they've been signed by loads of MSPs, so I've had loads of cross-party support already."?

Sounds like a good idea really, haviing a national holiday. It highlights the significance of whisky in Scotland's history, finance and culture.

Sounds good to me, my boss pays me to take a day off and drink whisky, i doubt it will happen though.

I recall seeing Blair Bowman being interviewed on TV last year he was just a young boy who knew next to nothing about whisky so he isnt doing this for the love of Scotch whisky, i would say he is doing it for himself. I think something like this whisky day needs someone with a love of Scotch behind it.

Sounds like a far fetched gimmick to me, never going to come to pass sadly!

St Andrews day holiday on the other hand would be a wonderful idea. Given that it's my birthday Very Happy

Alot of people are celebrating World Whisky Day today, NOT ME.

Whisky should be enjoyed every single day of the year but if you choose one day commemorating Whisk(e)y please choose -

International Whisky Day as it is a coming together of whisky fans across the globe to celebrate the birthday of the late Michael Jackson and the greatest spirit in the world. Raise a glass on March 27th and help fight Parkinson's Disease

Instead of Boycotting drinking Whisk(e)y today i shall be raising a dram to the Late Michael Jackson .
