Some of you may recall or perhaps even have a bottle of the Glenmorangie Mount Everest which was released in 2003.
Anyway as today is the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest, I thought you may be interested to know that Glenmorangie has unearthed a world first for malt whisky.
In May 1993 Rebecca Stephens MBE became the first British female mountaineer to stand at the roof of the world - with only four years' climbing experience.
Rebecca's summit bid was backed by Glenmorangie, which also provided the team with Glenmorangie 10 Years Old to raise their spirits at Base Camp.
Now, 20 years on, Glenmorangie has uncovered pictures in its archive of expedition team members at Everest's Camp Two at 6500m (21,300 ft) in the Western Cwm, holding a bottle of Glenmorangie.

William, that's very cool. I heard about the anniversary of the ascent this morning on the radio. Amazing that she is holding a bottle of Glenmorangie up there. As an aside back n 1981 I was planning a trip to Nepal but was experiencing some problems with severe allergies so the doctor recommended I pass on the trip. One of the highlights of the tour would have been having tea with Tenzing Norgay's wife whose name was Dak at base camp. I ended up going to Japan instead.

Yes that's true. However, my month vacation to Japan that year was unbelievable such as when I was floating on a pontoon boat on Lake Biwa at the base of Mount Fuji...pretty amazing or crossing the Inland Seto Sea of Japan on a ship and viewing giant jellyfish the size of refrigerators. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

I have a friend who was in the merchant navy and was often in Japan and always raved about it. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |
