I came across an interesting article about Macallan's launch of a $4,500 expression called M
in Hong Kong. "... the line is made of whisky selected from aged casks and bottled in 1.5-liter Lalique crystal decanters. Each is priced at $4,500".

I make that $7,875,000 for all 1750 bottles, at least it is a 1.5 litre bottle, it beats those miniature 70cl bottles |

I think the article in the Wall Street Journal blog may have got the bottle size wrong. The info i have is that The Macallan M was launched at the end of May in the Grand Hall at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. A specially made six litre version of the Macallan M crystal decanter was made by Lalique for the launch event but the Macallan M will be sold in 70cl size decanters and not 1.5 litre as the Wall Street Journal states.
John and Murray if you are not planning on buying a bottle and wondered what it tastes like according to The Macallan, M is interwoven with rich dried fruits, spices, orange citrus and wood notes, drawing on the distillery's classic full flavoured tradition. _________________ There's no bad whisky. | Makes sense, might as well target this kind of top-tier scotch to the country with the most consistently fast-growing economy and the largest number of nouveau-rich consumers that it may appeal to. |
