Im not 100% sure on any of this, but I'll offer my thoughts anyway.
Oddly enough the other night there was some kind of On-Line whisky tasting with Glengoyne whisky run by Rachle Barrie (the lady blender) seemed to go down well and they were tasting some of the old stuff so may be worth doing some searching. Are the distillery bottles? or are the indi bottles? the distillery bottles tend to be more valuable.
The Lagas again if dsitllery bottles are likly to be more valuable, id presonally like to taste this one though if I found the price was sky high id proably keep it.
The Octomore, is for me a gimmick whisky, one I'd like to try dont get me wrong but a gimmick all the same. Something like £100 for a 5yo whisky..... hmmm not for me thanks. Though I'd pay for a dram of it. |

If I was buying a special Bruichladdich to drink I'd get the Black Art, if I was buying to collect I might get the Octomore. The online prices for the original Octomores were getting quite silly, though eBay have probably killed the market a bit now. I was lucky enough to get to try the Octomore 2.1 and it was quite unique.

Cheers albo.
My thoughts on the octoman are the same as yours.
Yes the others are distillery bottles.
The price for the lagavullan is 460. Is that good?i think i saw one go at auction for a lot less not long ago. |

I assume the Glengoyne 1972 you refer to was the bottling that came in the lockable replica spirit safe box, if so i had a bottle. If i recall correctly it was released in 2007 at around £250. I have to admit i was attracted a little by the replica spirit safe box and it was amongst the oldest Glengoyne that has been released but curiosity got the better of me and i opened it so my bottle is long gone. It was was a decent whisky, but it didnt blow me away i would rate it 80/100, if it is for drinking i would say you can get better for your money, as far as collecting goes it should steadily rise in value if you were to tuck it away for a few years but it wont make you a whole lot. Should be attractive to buyers/collectors in years to come. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

william both the glengoynes are in wooden boxes, not the lockable thing.
got a chance to buy an ardbeg 1977 and a bowmore with the golf decanter ,metal model of a golfer to use as a stopper. also a glenfarcas - glenlivet 8 y old,1970,105 proof in 26 fluid ounces, a cadenhead caperdonich 14 y old, malts of distinction macallan1989,70 proof, m of distinction 1989 macallan vendemia and finally a cadenhead ardbeg 11y old.
what do you think? i am leaning towards the ardbeg 1977 and the caperdonich. how much would you pay? i have never tasted either but i am led to believe that the 77 is something special. am i correct.
thanks to you all for your comments. |

The Ardbeg 1977 is outstanding and a great buy whether you are going to drink it or as a investment. You would probably have to pay around £200 for a bottle now but you could get lucky and get a bottle in a private sale for £120 - £160 _________________ There's no bad whisky. Talisker Port Ruighe is a disgrace and has no place bearing the name of the distillery - it is the most bland, toothless, tedious talisker I have ever tasted, and I have tried a huge number of them.
I tried it before dinner, after dinner, with dinner, neat, with water ...... nothing. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |
