At the risk of breaking rule #1 of the Internet, actually meeting people in the real world, albo and I have lined up a visit to the Daftmill distillery in Fife on 24/07/13 and would like to extend an invite on these forums. I manage a whisky forum on a social network site at my work and we have a few colleagues who are interested but we believe the actual numbers attending may be fairly low.
The plan is to drive from central Edinburgh after lunch and arrive at 2.15pm. Subject to numbers of drivers (i.e. one or two) and seats we may have a couple of spots for anyone who is interested to come along. It's a pretty unique opportunity and should be a great day out, if you're interested respond on this thread or PM me for more details. More info about Daftmill is available here:

| I hadn't heard of Daftmill before but it looks like a great prospect! Also it's refreshing to see a new distillery not releasing young no-age statement whisky at collectors' prices. Looks like a fun trip, but like Bookie, I'm a bit too far! |

Shouldnt be too long to wait until they have there first release, didnt it start producing in 1995 so i would guess we will see some in 2 or 3 years.
bifter thanks for the invite but i wouldnt be able to make it but i would certainly be interested in hearing about it particularly about the style of whisky it is going to be. |

I plan to blog the visit for my work intranet site so I'll cross-post it here.
There's an article by Charles MacLean, including some great pictures and tasting notes, in Unfiltered - link below, page 16. It mentions that their sherry casks are Spanish oak and their Bourbon casks are from Heaven Hill - I'll try to remember to ask if they come from Glenmorangie's Ozark forests:

| Sounds like it will be a great visit, too far for me to travel. I am surprised they havent released any whisky yet to support production, it must have cost millions so far without taking in a penny. Good luck to them |

| There does seem to be a few of these micro distilleries on the way, great for single malt whisky drinkers. |

I think the best thing if people can come would be to drop me a PM with your name and an email address and I'll get in touch closer to the date with all the details.
I appreciate it's during work hours but this was the date that best suited availability of those at work who had expressed an interest. albo and I will be taking a half day's annual leave in order to make it. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."
