I've just acquired the following Dimple bottle with box:

As this is a 75cl bottle I believe it's pre-'80s however, there is no wire netting, which I believe was discontinued for a time at some point in the '60s so I'm guessing it's from the 1970s. Can anyone provide any more info or a value? I am guessing it's really not worth much and may well just crack it open.

Not that I know what it might be worth

Bifter going by the picture i would say it is likely a 1980's bottling of Dimple.

It is a quite uniquely shaped bottle, it is called Dimple here in Europe and Pinch in the US so it was certainly bottled for the UK or European market.

Up until January 1st 1980 the UK used the Sikes system of measuring the proof strength of spirits, they then changed to the system we use today - Percentage of Alcohol by Volume (% ABV) at a temperature of 20 degrees C. So this tells us your whisky was bottled after January 1st 1980.

Also in 1980 in the UK the standard size changed from 26 2/3 flozs to 750ml. Along with the rest of Europe the size changed again in 1992 to 700ml. This confirms your whisky if bottled for the UK market was bottled between 1980 and 1992.

There was a lot of these bottles around and you often see them at auction. In a whisky specialist shop you would pay around £70 perhaps half that amount at auction.

Like most standard blended whiskies it contains 40 or more malt whiskies but at its core it is said to be Glenkinchie which was considered to be its home, I believe there is also good portions of Dalwhinnie and Royal Lochnagar in it. A decent enough blended whisky, it wont blow you away but should be a pleasant blend to drink. It wont make you a fortune but it does always sell well at auction and if you stick it in the back of the cupboard for another 20 years who knows how much it could fetch. Or you could just drink it.

Thanks William! I was reading some duff info online then, as happens, I thought 1980 seemed too early for the move to 700ml bottles. I've had a miniature of Dimple before, it was certainly passable. Given the value of this and the hassle of selling it, it might just get drunk. I'm not one for having stuff hanging around in cupboards really.
