|
|
It is not often you see a new whisky brand from William Grant but they tell me they will be revealing a new and as they describe it, deliciously different whisky brand on Friday 4th October.
They say the new brand has been influenced by science and tradition and has a story that started over 50 years ago.
Not sure if it will be a single malt, blended malt or a new blended whisky but watch this space and i will let you know when i hear.
This image is on the front of my invite to the launch which i received, perhaps it is a clue to the style of whisky

| Surely it cant be a single malt unless William Grants have secretly built another malt whisky distillery. |

| Bookie wrote: | | Surely it cant be a single malt unless William Grants have secretly built another malt whisky distillery. | Bookie, William Grant have the Kininvie distillery which has been producing whisky since 1990, there have been a few very limited edition releases of Kininvie under the name Hazelwood but never a Kininvie single malt. Grants built Kininvie to produce whisky to go into there Grants blend and it was never really intended to be sold as a single malt but Grants opened the new modern efficient Ailsa Bay distillery in Ayrshire in 2007 which meant Kininvie wasnt so important to the Grants blend.
So the new whisky brand could be Kininvie or Ailsa Bay if it is a single malt but as William Grant have announced this to me as the launch of a new brand it may not be a single malt, perhaps a blended malt along the lines of Monkey Shoulder or even a new blend to try and getting a bigger bite of the enormous blended whisky market. _________________ There's no bad whisky. I would love it to be Ailsa Bay or a Kininvie single malt.
If i was to interpret the picture, top right is an oar and a sea gulls head, now Ailsa Craig which is in Ailsa bay is just a few miles row off the coast from Ailsa Bay distillery and isnt Ailsa Craig populated by 1000's of sea gulls.
Below the gulls head and oar are perhaps a flower, floral is often a decriptor for lowland whisky and blow that is perhaps orange segments.
I couldnt hazard a guess what #5974
Having said all that i am probably totally wrong. |

You are pretty good at the picture analysis Keith, i wouldnt have spotted the seagull.
It would be great if it was either Ailsa Bay or Kininvie, William Grants should have some mature Kininvie tucked away in a warehouse by now. |

Didnt they stop production at Kininvie back in 2010 once Ailsa Bay was in full swing, i havent heard that they ever started it up again, i just mention it because if the new brand was a Kininvie single malt i think the distillery would be up and running as ther ewould surely be an expected demand for the new brand in the coming years once it is established.
Hopefully it is an Ailsa Bay single malt but i suspect they will be launching a new blended whisky aimed at taking a slice of the enormous blended whisky market. |

| A new premium blended malt or blend would be good, i am sure William Grants will have the maturing stock to create something interesting. |

Yes that is intriguing, along with the mention of a 'science' influence. There is a possibility it may be a liqueur or an infusion of some sort.

Actually I think we can rule out a single malt. In 1830, Aeneas Coffey was granted Patent #5974 for his continuous still.

Could it be a single grain or a blended grain? _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

I wondered if anyone would recognise the #5974 number, well spotted bifter. The number did make me think it may be a blend or perhaps a Girvan single grain whisky. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

| Yes well spotted bifter. It does look like it will be a Girvan blend or single grain. |

| I am hoping for an Ailsa Bay single malt but your deciphering of the picture does point at a blend or grain whisky, as long as it is good for a decent price i will give it a go. |

| Isnt it possible the new brand could be an Irish whiskey as they have used the patent number #5974 which was granted to Irishman Aeneas Coffey and William Grants do already own the Tullamore Dew brand. Why would they have used the patent number granted to an Irishman to promote a new Scotch whisky. |
