I was over in Arran for a break and forgot to take a bottle with me , with no transport I didn't make it to the distillery, so it was a short walk to the co op in Brodick where the selection of Whisky was limited , I ended up buying a bottle of black bottle as I have never tried before( fruity sweetness with a medium smoke to it) not a bad dram at all !
It reminded me of macallan 10. Or maybe I just drank a little too much.
Cheers Alan. |

Sounds like a fun experience. I understand Bunnahabhain distillery is the home of Black Bottle, a satisfying blend with two excellent variants, Black Bottle and Black Bottle 10 Year Old. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Unfortunately The Black Bottle is not available here in Ontario. There is an Irish brew called BUSHMILLS BLACK BUSH WHISKEY (Distinctive aroma of spice and malt; nutty, sweet, toffee-tinged flavours available here), rated quite high here and very reasonably priced at 37. Canadian dollars or 23 pounds equivalent. I have yet to try it but expect to at some point. According to The Whisky Exchange the Black Bush :
"...contains a high proportion of triple-distilled single malt, aged in Oloroso sherry casks for around 8-10 years before marriage with the grain. Picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards 2010". _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

The black bush is one I've had before but a few years ago now , if memory serves me right it was a tasty dram too! I might have to buy another just to jog my memory !
But first I've a half bottle of black bottle to finish off !

| Black Bush is an excellent premium blended Irish whisky which contains a high percentage of single malt produced at Bushmills in Northern Ireland and grain whiskey which comes from the Midleton distillery down in the south of Ireland. |

| You can't beat a bit of black bottle for what it costs. |

Now selling at £12 in Tesco as I posted in the Bargains forum so I had to get a bottle. Really impressed, prefer it to Teacher's, which is also in the same kind of price bracket. I think it's true that Islay malts can be drunk quite young, one could probably surmise that the peat influence hides the rougher edges but nothing wrong with that. May have to get another bottle while it's still at this price. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

Black Bush is an excellent value, priced locally where I am at only $28 (Total Wine & Liquor). Since Bushmills only produces malted barley, there is a high of 80% of it in the Black Bush with the remaining 20% grain purchased from Midleton. The triple distillation makes it a little too smooth, if that's possible, for my taste but still a very good daily go-to inexpensive blend.
I've yet to try the Black Bottle, having read on Ralfy's website a few caveats from some who believe the quality has decreased. Still, it certainly is cheap, $20 in these parts. |

I prefer the Black Bush over the Bushmills 10 year old malt, the Bushmills original is a decent Irish blend also.
I recently tasted Black Bottle for the first time in quite a while and i have to say i was a bit disappointed, i thought the peat influence was much tamer than it had been but still a great value dram. The Black Bottle 10 year old is excellent. |
