Hi, on Wednesday evening we were on the John Walker Voyager in Edinburgh, it was a good night.
We stayed overnight in Edinburgh and wandered up the Royal mile the next day.
Not been for a wee while and I was surprised how many whisky shops are on the Royal mile now, I think I was in 6.

One shop was selling John Walker Odyssey priced at £1000 and yet you walk up 100 yards and the same bottle is £590.
You can easily buy this bottle online for around £580. Twice I saw it priced at £1000....?

Yeah the Royal mile is a tourist trap but I thought they were really taking the mince.

I then had a small argument in another shop, I asked if they sold 25yr Macallan, reply "Macallan have stopped all age statements" I then pointed out that they were selling Macallan 18yr, the guy was really flustered at this point and stormed off?
Why employ staff if they do not know what they are selling.

Rant over Smile

The whisky shops on the royal mile do seem to be breeding lately and some are a total rip off

Last time i was in the royal mile it was great to see more whisky shops but i was shocked at some of the pricing, there should be rules against such rip off pricing and they do the tourist industry no favours.

I wish i had known about the John Walker Voyager in Edinburgh, i suppose it was a ticket or invite only thing.

That is just wrong but i am sure some mug tourist will pay what they are asking. Out of interest was the shops with the inflated prices staffed by Scottish staff or were they more asian/indian or other. The reason i ask is because of what one of the family said about what is going on on the Royal Mile.

Keith, it was invite only but my wife had won a comp to get us on board. It was a good night but a bit too busy, as they shut off part of the yacht to VIP guests.

Big Mac, both the shops selling the JW Odyssey at £1000 were staffed by Asian/indian, they had some good bottles but way over priced. I think they owned both shops, one at either end of the mile.
