Hello all,

What in your opinion is a nice, caramely sweet malt that leaves your mouth and glass tasting like it's just been lathered in fudgy icing sugar???

From memory, I think the nearest I got was an 18 year old Glenmorangie - older bottling about 10 years ago now - fantastic. I thought I'd found one again recently in their Quinta Ruban until a second 'harsh' bottle put me off.

I love the Balvenie Doublewood too but perhaps there is something better?

I've also had a 21 year old Glenfiddich and an 18 year Highland park - the latter exeptional but too expensive for everyday drinking.

Any thoughts to point me down different avenues? Thanks

Have you tried the Glenlivet Nadurra, loads of barley sugar sweetness, vanilla, butterscotch and an excellent whisky.

I would suggest trying Glen Grant 10 year old.

Matt, I would say a reasonably priced single malt which is considered very sweet is Glenfarclas 10. David Wishart in his excellent book Whisky Classified rates this whisky as one with maximum sweetness. I concur.

I will add Glenmorangie Nectar D'or to the list.

If you enjoy Balvenie Doublewood then you should also like Glenfarclas 15, Glendronach 15 and Aberlour 16

Weller 12 year old :D

It's not a scotch, it's a 12 year old wheated bourbon at 90 US proof (45% abv).

Because it's wheated it's really rich, vanilla and caramel flavoured, sweet and smooth.

Yummers, and it's only about £35 a bottle too.

Hey thanks everyone, plenty to experiment with there.

New to the forum, just finding my way around - if my spelling starts falling apart I'll log off and put the bottle away!

I'd recommend the Balvenie Caribbean Cask and the Glenfiddich 15yr Solera although the Glenfiddich is probably a little sweeter.
