Yesterday, Speciality Drinks Ltd launched a very rare limited edition bottling of Glenfarclas. The single cask Glenfarclas 1953 which was bottled to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Incredibly after almost six decades in the cask it was bottled at 51.1% ABV.

The Coronation Decanter is available to buy exclusively from The Whisky Exchange with an RRP of £6000, but if that is a little out of your budget there is also a 5cl miniature available with an RRP of £600.

You would think for £6000 it would have come with a free miniature. I am sure it is a brilliant whisky as Glenfarclas does age well in my experience but this will have to be another one for when i win the lottery.

Totally agree about the free mini.

I tasted a Glenfarclas 1953 family cask in the summer at the Speyside whisky festival, I enjoyed it but preferred the '63.

However I am the only one in shock about the price of £6000?

You could buy the '53 family cask for around £1000, but I think it is sold out now , suddenly put the same year vintage in a decanter with a fancy box and it is 6x the price? Sad

I would love to try this but the prices are frightening, I guess they know that there are enough people out there that can and will pay these prices, unfortunately it is way beyond me but it does indicate the way all whisky prices are going, things dont look good.

That 5cl is out of my price range...

..........I hope they never kill the Golden goose. Better to sell many at a reasonable price than a few at a huge price..I would imagine you ride the storms better.

Whisky seems to have gone up far more than the cost of living over the last 3 years.....Im not sure there can be any justification for the ever increasing price hikes weve seen.

Even if this was within my budget i would have to read an independent review before parting with this amount of cash. I am unlikely to have this type of money to spend on whisky but i would still love to see an indie review of this.

I cannot imagine that there is any Scotch whisky worth this amount but i guess it is more the rarity of the whisky you will be paying for. If they are so confident it is worth the money I would love to hear an independent review.

Glenfarclas is one of my regular drams and i would love to try this but at 6K a pop i doubt that will happen. I would love to hear from anyone who does taste this. The mini is tempting for me but a review would be good first.
