I purchased a bottle this afternoon and here are my first taste notes on The Glenlivet Guardians Chapter Limited Edition, 48.7% abv. The bonus here is that the bottle offered by the LCBO is 750ml.
Neat-
Nose: Christmas fruit cake, honey flecks, sherry notes, maple fudge; fruitiness impinges delightfully on the olfactory sense; oranges and nectarines and consolidated orange peel dance an aromatic chorus line.
Palate: Creamy smooth, orange parfait, spicy tangerines, becoming chewy; burst of sweetness followed by spices and an intrinsic exotic citrus underlay that goes on and on. Touch of lychee fruit. Oaky notes provide a backdrop to the citrus foreground.
Finish: Long, orange citrus, hint of spice with mint on the edge of consciousness, breath-freshening with subtle spearmint notes and marmelade sweetness building to Niagara ice wine.
Comments: This is a memorable dram and at 48.7%abv provides a boldness and balance that does not go unnoticed. The nose really is quite lovely followed by palate and finish with recognizable intensity and pizzaz. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
