The Glenrothes has unveiled a new travel retail exclusive series of whiskies, The Glenrothes Manse Brae Reserves range.

Named after the street on which RothesHouse, stands, the Manse Brae range comprises of:

Glenrothes Manse Reserve, Largely matured in American Oak casks with the influence of some Sherry Oak also evident. Bottled at 43% ABV

Glenrothes Elders' Reserve, Matured for a minimum of 18 years in equal proportions of American Oak and Spanish Oak casks. Bottled at 43% ABV.

Glenrothes Minister's Reserve, Matured for a minimum of 21 years in a higher proportion of Spanish Oak casks, it is the pinnacle of the Manse Brae range. Bottled at 43% ABV.

Glenrothes has always been one of those distilleries which Ive never really found anything I truly like, nothing has been offensive but nothing has made me want to buy a full bottle of any of the samples ive had.

I doubbt I'll pick one of these up, but may try if they are open and available next time im in the airport, you never know one of them might be the one to turn my opinion.

I know what you mean albo, i believe the entry level Glenrothes Manse Reserve will be around £28 which is not bad, not sure of the pricing of the others though but i would guess a good bit more considering they are 18 and 21 year old. I will watch for them at the airport and hopefully get a chance to taste them.

Excellent William, that does sound like a sensible price to me for a (I assume?) NAS whisky. Are these 1L bottle or 700ml?

All 3 bottles are 70cl, sadly many travel retail bottlings are edging towards being 70cl as standard, the 1 litre bottles are becoming less and less.

It looks to me that travel retail whisky is moving away from the bigger and better value bottles of the whiskies we can normally find in shops, and they are creating a travel retail exclusive range where they dont need to compete in price or offer discounts. I have also noticed many new travel retail exclusive bottles now have no age statement. Even Glenfiddich have the Glenfiddich Cask Collection, which is 3 no age statement travel retail bottlings on the way next year, no age statement whisky is very unusual for Glenfiddich.

Some of the Glenrothes vintages i have had the chance to taste in the past have been okay (the years excape me just now), but in general i have never tasted a Glenrothes that has inspired me to want to buy more.

It's a sad reflection of the way the whole market is going right now. It reeks of profiteering to me. But hey what do I know.

If this trio is similar to Select and Robur Reserve I'm not overly excited.

I have had the Glenrothes Select it was a pleasant enough easy to drink Speyside whisky, fruit vanilla a bit of spice, still a bit young and spirity.

Sounds underwhelming which is my usual thoughts on Glenrothes

For me Glenrothes has two faces: on one side there are excellent ranges of older vintages and on the other younger and not interesting NAS. I don't know in which side this trio will be positioned.
