Hello Fellow Forum Fellows
I am off to Ayr in Scotland this Friday for a couple of days, any suggestions of good bars (Whisky/Beer) to visit would be appreciated.
Cheers |

Ive only ever been to Ayr once and that was in the car so I didn't get to any bars etc.
It was wet and windy (probably will be the same this weekend), and we didn't stay long.
I wish I could be of more help |

minesascotch, as James says Robbies Drams is worth a stop even if it is just to browse the whisky. You will find a number of bars in that area, in fact there are a few in the Sandgate where Robbis Drams shop is.
Here is a good list and description of a few bars
http://www.ayrshirescotland.com/ayrshirebusiness/ayrbars.html
I have eaten in the West Kirk which is a Wetherspoon pub but only during the day for a quick cheap lunch, i think most of the pubs on this list are busy in the evening. I am always driving when in Ayr so i am not that familiar with which pubs would have a good range of whisky but i am sure if you asked in Robbies Drams they would have the local knowledge and be able to point you in the right direction. Have a good weekend. |

Its been a couple of years since i have been out drinking in Ayr and when i did it wasn't really for malt whisky, to be honest i would rather have a night out in Prestwick.
I agree with sticking to the Sandgate area where you can visit McCarthurs, West of the moon , Tree house, The Four Cats (now Boswellls?) and West kirk (Weatherspoons). These are a bit standard pub affairs. Billy Bridges (Bridges bar) can have a really good atmosphere. The wee Windaes is just round the road and Wellingtons is also worth a visit.
Ayr has changed a lot in the past ten years and a lot of the pubs i used to go to have shut or changed hands.
Oh and Club De Mar if you are hardcore. _________________ Putting the func in dysfunctional. |

Thanks everyone for your reply's, as mentioned it could be wet and windy and it was, but we were prepared, we did go to Robbies Drams and had a nice chat with Robbin, very helpful, as a result we visited the Newton Arms which had been refurbed and had a couple of nice beers, then onto the Bridges Bar, also nice, we ended up in Cecchinis Italian at Sandgate which was also very good, despite the weather we had a great time.
