Jim names "Glenmorangie Ealanta" world whisky of the year.

Can't say that I'm familiar with this expression, so really can't comment on the big man's choice.

It's interesting that this Glenmorangie expression sells in British Columbia, Canada. Not available here in Ontario as of yet. However, 288 bottles available in B.C. as mentioned for $133. a bottle or 80 pounds equivalent. I'm also not familiar with this 19 year expression. Here's more about it-

JM (via Whisky Intelligence):
": the unique Glenmorangie had pipped its rival "because it went out and did something very different: not only did it blow me away with its deftness, beauty and elegance, but it gave an aroma and taste profile completely new to me in over 30 years of tasting whisky"?.

I personally like Ealanta - no more or less. But if this is JM's the best Scotch whisky from few thousands samples I am afraid that he had a very bad year.

I've never tried this one. No doubt it will shoot up in price now.

Interested to know what the other winners were.

This certainly won't hurt Glenmo's ascension in the US market!

I can not believe that the Ealanta has been chosen as the best by JM I have just finished a bottle of this and have a 2nd put by, it is good but not the best by any means, I have been very lucky and tasted some excellent whisky at various whisky shows, the most recent being The Whisky Exchange Show in London, I can list at least 20 whiskies tried that weekend that were far better in my opinion.

Rolling Eyes

PS Do I remember correctly that JM works for or is linked with Glenmorangie/Ardbeg ?

As it happens yes I did, it was however the first time I had poured whisky away ! but it did mean I was able to enjoy the whole weekend and try a lot more than I had at other shows, I do know that you can only really enjoy the true taste of a few before you overload your taste buds but it worked for me this time and turned out to be the best show I had been to, there was plenty of water taken on board and I did make use of the food pairings also.

Very Happy

Make sure you keep spitting, the output of those buckets go into the Highland Commissioner blend

Isnt the Glenmorangie Ealanta part of the same ranrange as Sonnalta and Artein, i havent had it but it would have to be good to top them.

I haven't tried this one. However, the Sonnalta XP is a stellar dram.

Yes it is part of the limited range including the Sonnalta, thankfully I have a few of these, (one of my favs) but only one left of the Ealanta, the price of which will go through the roof no doubt, at a recent tasting I got talking to the Ardbeg/Glenmorangie staff and they suggested I get more of the Ealanta, did they know something already ? I ask myself, unfortunately I had just spent more than allowed on whisky and decided to let it go wish I had bought a few.
