I now take all whisky awards with a huge pinch of salt.
Quote from the whisky shop
"Our Whisky of the Year is voted for by our customers as well as our knowledgeable store managers, which underlines the impact of this new addition to The Macallan range and The Macallan Amber is a highly deserving winner of our Whisky of the Year 2013."?
Sienna was the best for me if I had to pick a favourite out of the new Macallan coloured range, but whisky of the year....?
I joined a whisky club about 3 months ago to expand my taste buds and knowledge, I still prefer a Speyside whisky but I am starting to like some peat reek. |

| I have always taken the Whisky Shop with a pinch of salt, just look at the current top 10 whiskies on there website Jura Superstition at No 1 and Dalmore 12 at No 2, more like a list of whiskies that they want to sell rather than best sellers of customer favourites. |

The whisky gift buyers will be hugely influenced by the whisky shops top 10 whiskies list and it may well be their to 10 sellers as this is what they will be pushing in the shops and on their website.
I recall Old Pulteney 12 was always around the top of their top 10 whisky list for such a long time but it doesnt even appear in the current list, i guess the deal from Old Pulteney isnt as attractive to the Whisky Shop as it used to be.
Their prices are still outrageous for example Strathisla 12 is £40.49 and TWE price is £29.95 |

It's all about the gifting marker for the next two months.
I noted with interest my local store has been discounting gold almost since it was introduced. _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

The Whisky Shop is a bad joke, who would pay £78 for Highland Park 18 or £68 for Lagavulin 16?
I'd swear they only survive by virtue of having shops in prime tourist spots where they can fleece unsuspecting visitors to these shores. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

...and, yes, the Sienna is the nicest of the new Macallan range. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

The Whisky Shop is a never-ending source of amusement to me but also bewilderment. I was checking out prices of Glenfarclas 40 as it's my 40th next year and I want to treat myself. It's available from a number of sources for a little under £300, The Whisky Shop price? £400.49 with delivery The proportion of overpricing seems to go up for more expensive bottles if anything!
From Loch Fyne Whiskies, it's £295 plus P&P. _________________ "Whisky is liquid sunshine."

You do wonder how the keep going, is there really 'that' many not savvy gullable tourists about who wont even check a price on thier smart phone, or look around before spening the best part of £100 or often upwards? |
