Here's my taste notes for today on these two, head-to-head-:

Neat

Glenfiddich 15 Solera

Nose: Fruity, floral, cantaloup, walnut torte, sherry trifle, nutty melange, fruit cocktail, chocolate nougat and hazel nut.

Palate: Spicy, heavy fruit syrup, creamy and dark chocolate.

Finish Long, oak, light furniture oil, chocolate pudding and dark chocolate fudge.

Dalwhinnie 15

Nose: Vanilla, meringue, perfume, fruit syrup, vanilla nougat and heather honey.

Palate: Spice, lemon grass, smoky heather with some intensity.

Finish: Lingering, spice, hint of menthol and mint.

***An interesting match-up here. I have to say I enjoyed the Glenfiddich 15 Solera slightly more than the Dalwhinnie today, particularly on the palate. It could be the state of my palate today.

2 old favourites of mine, i would love to be able to get my hands on a higher strength Glenfiddich Solera 15, i think it could be outstanding.

The Glenfiddich Solera is definitely my pick between the two - I agree with James, it would be an outstanding whisky at a higher strength. But even as it is, it's one of the best everyday drinking whiskies in my opinion.
