Burn Stewart Distillers has unveiled a new look and new taste for their popular smoky Black Bottle blended whisky. They tell me the new whisky has a curiously rich and slightly smoky taste that maintains the distinctiveness of Black Bottle but adds another layer of depth to the liquid.

Lets hope they havent messed with the recipe too much. They had the chance to up the ABV and remove the colouring like they done a couple of years ago with their single malt whiskies such as Bunnahabhain, Ledaig and Deanston which considerably improved these whiskies. Unfortunately they havent taken the chance to do this, I havent tasted the new bottle yet but a friend who has told me that it has moved a a little closer to Speyside and away from Islay which may have been Burn Stewarts intention so as to make the whisky more appealing to a wider audience, i just hope they havent mellowed out the smoke too much and lost their existing fans of the whisky.

Anyway the new bottle looks like this:

It should be coming to a shop near you soon. Fingers crossed it is a good one as there is certainly room for decent affordable to drink anytime blends with the way the malt whiskies prices are going.
